Amazing Adaptations - Bharat Ek Khoj

For a lot of people reading is boring and they are immune (sometimes aversed) to the charms of a paperback. They usually prefer a more interactive audio-visual medium to get an engaging experience. No wonder live-action adaptations of books make for some of the best movies and TV shows ever produced.

One of those is the classic The Discovery of India by Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, India's first Prime Minister. The book has been moulded into a very insightful and extremely well made TV series "Bharat Ek Khoj", directed by the iconic Indian director Shyam Benegal.

The series was a 53 part historical drama portraying India's extensive history from it's ancient Harappan cultures to its independence in 1947. The series debuted in 1988 on DD National. It earns its place in the archives of classics both due to its age and its merit  It is one of the most accurate and well-produced pieces on Indian history till date. The fact that it has managed to stay relevant for over 2 decades, says a lot about the show. In the age of gross historical manipulations, it's always a good idea to brush up your history 101 
The book itself was written by Pandit Nehru while he was in serving jail time. It is well researched and shows the erudition of Pt.Nehru.
Anyone looking for a good tv show to learn about Indian history and its nuances should definitely check this out
The series stays true to the book and is one of the most well done live action adaptations of any book I've come across.
Hope you like Bharat Ek Khoj and enjoy seeing the development of the subcontinents and watch the narrative of one of the most dynamic histories of the world. Till next time, keep reading, keep recommending, keep watching and keep sharing the love for more the passengers in the paperback trails the better it is
